[spanish] |
Azucarera Ebro is the leading sugar producer in Spain, with a market share of white sugar and brown cane sugar in the region of 800,000 t (data from the 2000/2001 campaign). The company, as it exists today, is the result of a merger between several different companies over the past few years, (Sociedad General Azucarera de España, Compañía de Industrias Agrícolas y Ebro Compañía de Azúcares y Alimentación). The origins of the original company however, can be traced back to beginning of the 19th century.
A significant milestone in the company's history was the incorporation
of Ebro Puleva, S.A, on January 1, 2001, as a result of the merger between
Azucarera Ebro Agrícolas and Puleva, thereby creating the leading
Spanish Food Group. As a result of this merger and the subsequent restructuring
of the existing companies within this new corporation, Azucarera Ebro
Agrícolas changed its name to Azucarera Ebro, S.L. Sociedad Unipersonal,
the current registered company name, which continues to combine all business
lines directly linked to the production, processing and sale of sugar,
and all by-products), with Spanish Fiscal Identification Number
NIF B-78373511 and having its registered offices in Avenida de Manoteras,
46 28050 - Madrid. The company is registered in the Register of Companies
in Madrid, volume 4.527, sheet 194, page M- 74579.
Over 2,000 employees work at our plants located all over Spain. The sugar
produced in these plants comes from collecting harvests from around 13,000
growers who every year supply Azucarera Ebro with the finest raw materials.
The ongoing streamlining and persistent research to develop state of
the art technology enables the company to avail of the best equipment
for improving production procedures on a daily basis. This in turn is
reflected through improved product quality and services for our customers
in the industry, distribution network, and of course, the end user.
During the sugar extraction process one of the by-products produced is
molasses, the principal raw material for producing alcohol, citric acid
and bread-making yeast.
Quality control is a priority for Azucarera Ebro, S.L., as a determining
factor in its sustainable development, competitiveness and adaptation
to its social surroundings.
Quality Control and Environmental policy at Azucarera Ebro is founded on ongoing comprehensive and focused action of each and every member of the organisation to achieve sustained development of the company
